Penelope enjoys the company and she and the girl get along very well. ![]() When Olivia's boyfriend dies suddenly, she brings his teenage daughter Antonia (Stephanie Stumph) back with her to stay with her mother. ![]() 6/29/2023 0 Comments August one last stop![]() I wasn’t sure if this setup would work but McQuiston did the worldbuilding well and made me believe this was a thing that could happen. And that begins the mystery plot of One Last Stop as August and Jane set about discovering who exactly, and where exactly, Jane belongs. August also works in this amazing diner that felt precisely like a diner you’d find in New York and populated with real characters that exist in New York, who slowly just become her family too.Īugust meets Subway Girl, aka Jane, on yes, the subway, one day and she realizes that Jane cannot actually leave the subway. Her roommates don’t let her hole up in her room, they adopt her into their family kind of without her realizing it, and she looks up one day and realizes that she has people that love her. She’s always been a bit of a loner and if you’re looking for found family, this book delivers it all over the place. While I don’t live there, I have visited yearly for about 10 years, and the descriptions of the subways, the diners, the streets…all of it just made me wish I could hop on a plane tomorrow. August has just moved to NYC, and the atmosphere felt incredibly accurate. ![]() ![]() ![]() I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It’s delightfully queer and set in New York, which combined was just one of the best experiences to listen to, although since I can’t travel right now did leave me feeling a little melancholy. ![]() 6/29/2023 0 Comments Mike chen brotherhood![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As Obi-Wan investigates with the help of a heroic Neimoidian guard, he finds himself working against the Separatists who hope to draw the planet into their conspiracy-and senses the sinister hand of Asajj Ventress in the mists that cloak the planet.Īmid the brewing chaos, Anakin Skywalker rises to the rank of Jedi Knight. A TIME 100 Best Fantasy Books of All TimeĪ Time Magazine Best Fantasy Book of 2018 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He spends most of the book trying to think up ways he can make things right (and that’s part of the reason he courts Chloe-in addition to his longstanding crush on her, he knows she has the brain to come up with ideas for ways he can use his power to improve things). Jeremy is a duke in Regency England and is deeply aware of the power, privilege, and ethical problems that comes with that. The townsfolk are an equal delight, and I think they’ll only get more delightful on rereads. I love their interactions with each other and the town around them. He calls out other people whose teasing cross lines and when they try to point out that he’s done it just as bad, he acknowledges the way it hurt Chloe and makes it clear that’s not something he ever wants to do again. Best of all, he recognizes when his teasing crosses a line and apologizes and tries to do better. ![]() Jeremy is pure snark and playful teasing. The Duke Who Didn’t by Courtney Milan, is an utter delight.Ĭhloe is a gem and I love her and her lists and her thirst for revenge by success in business. I think I’d laugh even more on a reread, knowing some of the reveals at the end. I laughed pretty much the whole way through. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy a straight romance as much as I did in this book. ![]() ![]() ![]() Although AM often appears to be godlike, it is no god, for as George Edward Slusser points out in his study Harlan Ellison: Unrepentant Harlequin (1977), AM cannot create life, although it can prevent the survivors from dying. It quickly runs data to kill all on Earth except for five survivors on whom to play out its sadistic and revenge-filled games. The computers created by humans to fight their wars for them join together into one linked and unified computer, AM, which discovers sentience. ![]() "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" is a horrifying look into a post-apocalyptic hell. Perhaps more accurately, the story can be read simultaneously as all of the above. One of Ellison's most frequently anthologized stories, "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" can be read as a cautionary tale about nuclear proliferation, as a warning about the relationship between people and computers, or as an expression of the destructive power of thwarted creativity. The story won a Hugo Award in 1968 and quickly became a favorite story among Ellison's readers and critics alike. It was later collected in the book I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, also published in 1967. Harlan Ellison's short story "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" originally appeared in the March 1967 issue of IF: Worlds of Science Fiction. ![]() 6/29/2023 0 Comments Transcendent kingdom author![]() Gifty takes care of her mother and runs her lab experiments.
